Cloud backup on MEGA with Iperius



Iperius Backup can perform cloud backups to the MEGA object storage service . You can use Iperius to back up files, databases, and virtual machines to the MEGA Cloud via the S3 protocol (MEGA is in fact an S3-compatible service).

Iperius Backup is one of the most comprehensive cloud backup tools. It supports backups to Amazon S3, Aruba Cloud, Wasabi, Minio, FreeNAS , and any other S3-compatible storage . Furthermore, Iperius allows you to copy files to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and Azure Storage . It is also a powerful software for protecting virtual machines (VMware ESXi, ESXi, Free, vCenter, Microsoft Hyper-V), mail servers (Exchange), databases (SQL Server, SQL Express, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL), and Microsoft 365 organizations.

If you have a MEGA account and want to create S3 credentials, the process is very simple.

These are the credentials (Access Key and Secret Key) to enter into the Iperius Backup software when configuring the backup on MEGA, as we will see shortly.

First, download and install the latest version of Iperius Backup.

Next, follow these steps.

  1. Create a new backup job and add the files, folders, or other special items (drive images, ESXi or Hyper-V virtual machines, Office 365, SQL Server databases, etc.) you want to save to your MEGA space:
  2. Add a Cloud destination by clicking the corresponding button (“Destinations” panel):
  3. Add an S3 account, entering your MEGA credentials:

    Enter the following parameters and credentials:
    Name : Choose a name for the Cloud account
    Type : S3
    Access Key ID : Your MEGA API access key
    Secret Access Key : Your MEGA API secret key
    Service Point (URL) : s3.g.s4.mega.io
    “Use SSL” : Enabled
    Signature : 4.

Click “Save” to validate the account and have it in your account list.

If this endpoint doesn’t work, you can try other geographic endpoints, which can be viewed in the Object Storage settings:

Close this window and return to the Cloud destination configuration on Iperius.

  1. Configure backup settings to save files to the MEGA cloud destination:

    Select the newly created account, then choose the bucket name, backup type (full, incremental, differential), and any other options (zip compression, AES 256-bit encryption, synchronization, etc.). Click “OK” to save the destination and proceed. You can also configure the backup schedule and email notifications .
  2. After saving the backup process, you can immediately run it for a test:

    Iperius will automatically transfer all the files to your MEGA storage space, quickly and safely.

An online backup is always a winning choice for protecting your vital data, as an offsite backup protects you from accidental loss due to hardware failure, theft, fire, or ransomware attacks.
